Accidents can happen in any rental home. Recently, one of our tenants was frying food when a small kitchen fire quickly escalated. Thanks to fast emergency response and our proactive property management approach, what could have been a disaster was contained and resolved with minimal damage.
Immediate Response Matters
The apartment building’s owner had hired Croskey Real Estate to manage the property, which meant we were ready to act. Local firefighters arrived quickly and doused the flames before they spread beyond the kitchen. Once the scene was declared safe, our team was onsite to assess the damage.
Because of our established vendor relationships, we had a restoration crew cleaning smoke, ash, and debris by the very next day. The tenant was relieved to learn their personal possessions were spared, and because we require renter’s insurance at lease signing, their temporary housing was covered during the kitchen restoration.
Prevention Through Inspections & Education
Emergencies like this highlight why prevention is just as important as quick response. As part of our property management services, we conduct routine property inspections that help identify risks before they become emergencies.
In fact, during inspections we’ve learned that many tenants aren’t fully aware of everyday fire hazards. That’s why we provide ongoing tenant education, including:
• Annual reminders about household fire safety
• Guidelines for hazard prevention in the kitchen and throughout the home
• Easy-to-follow resources for safe daily living
This proactive education, paired with modern communication tools, helps us respond quickly and reduce risks for both tenants and owners.
More Than Rent Collection
Property management is often misunderstood as simply collecting rent each month. In reality, it’s about protecting investments, ensuring tenant safety, and reducing risks that could cost owners thousands.
When you think about who you want looking after your rental property, ask yourself: Do they have the experience and systems to respond when the unexpected happens?
At Croskey Real Estate, we make sure the answer is always yes.
